Our School Council
Welcome to the School Council.
A School Council it’s an ideal opportunity for pupils to get involved in the way a school is run. It benefits the whole school, providing opportunities for pupils to communicate their feelings to school staff as well as influence decisions that are made. Through the School Council, pupils will develop skills such as being confident, communication and negotiation.
Our School Council is made up of one representative from each class. Each class also has a deputy, who keeps the minutes of class meetings and attends School Council in the representative’s absence. The School Councillors were voted in by other pupils. Our School Council has a Chair person, Secretary and Treasurer plus 8 councillors.
Members of the School Council represent their own views and the views of all the pupils in the school. Each class has a fortnightly meeting so that class representatives can collect their views, ideas and suggestions to take to the next School Council meeting.
Read about our School Councillors thoughts:
“Our school is good because there is NO bullying, fun teachers (including the head and deputy head) and there is a good place to go if you need help, a chat or first aid. My advice is that we should all keep a careful eye on our stuff. It would be great if we could have lockers! In our class council meetings we have already had lots of good ideas for improving our school. My job is to go the the School Council meetings and tell everyone about our ideas. Then I have to report back to class. I hope I can be a good representative.”
“We are a group of people who have been elected by our classmates. There are 11 pupils on the School Council and 11 deputies. There are three extra jobs which some of the councillors need to do. These jobs are Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer. We are going to have discussions in our classes about our ideas of the things that we would like to change or add to our school, and then the councillors will take the chosen idea to put forward to the council. We hope that we can fundraise to pay for the things we would like to have. I think this is a great idea because it gives a chance for the pupils to get more involved with changes for the school. The school is even better now that it has a council that gives the whole school a chance for their ideas to be put forward. I really enjoy being on the School Council and I can’t wait to get started. I am a councillor for my class and I am also the Treasurer, which is great. I hope we have lots of funds for me to treasure!!!!”
