CJS- A National Healthy School!

Two years ago we were awarded Norfolk's 'Healthy Schools' Status and this year we have achieved 'National Healthy Schools' status. We are one of 76 schools in Norfolk so far to achieve this status which is great. We are very proud that all our efforts have been recognised and feel that it is something to celebrate. It has been a real team effort.
Tree planting

An area of the grounds was planted with silver birch trees in March 2006. Eventually this will provide a shaded area so pupils can escape the direct sun during their breaks in the hottest months.
We have worms!

The wriggly wrigglers enjoying their carrots!
This summer term our worms arrived thaks to the support of Tracey from SWAC. The Eco Club were very interested in setting up a wormery as part of their ongoing work about composting and Mrs White contacted SWAC who visited the club and told them all about how to keep the worms and their importance to the eco system. The children at CJS love feeding them the leftovers from their healthy snack and enjoy watching the wriggly wrigglers at work!
The Eco Club at work

Beware! Eco Warriors at work!
Every Friday after school the Eco Club meet to consider ways of improving the school environment so it can be a nicer place for everyone to work and play. Their main aim is to encourage everyone at school to improve their environment and think about how to be 'greener'. They have been up to all sorts of things this year e.g clearing out the pond, collecting rubbish, making posters and reminders, organising waste free week, weighing the amount of rubbish we produce, composting, delivering assemblies and setting up the wormery to name but a few!!
Phew! What a busy little bunch they are. Well done!
REMEMBER we all need to do our bit - CJS kids care about their planet.... do you?

Design a container competition

The School Council are organising a container competition so that the amount of waste we create at school is cut. They have been seriously concerned about the amount of litter that fills the bins daily and are also worried about the fact that what most children bring for snack is not very healthy! The School Council wants to encourage pupils to bring healthy snacks (or snacks without wrappers!) so have decided to run this competition in school.
